The AVA Home Economics Division Research Committee initiated a proposal for the Journal of Vocational Home Economics Education (JVHEE) in 1982. The concept of a refereed Journal was unanimously endorsed by the Policy and Planning Committee of the Home Economics Division of AVA. Members of the National Association of Teacher Educators for Vocational Home Economics (NATEVHE) collected sufficient funds to pay for the first issue in their association business meeting. Subsequently, the other affiliate associations were invited to make contributions.

In December 1994, the name of the Home Economics Division was changed to Family and Consumer Sciences Education. The name of the affiliate was changed to National Association of Teacher Educators for Family and Consumer Sciences (NATEFACS) and the name of the journal was changed to Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences Education (JFCSE).

Prepared and approved by the Editorial Board, 1987, 1995, 1999.
